A humanoid robot and a bionic hand for aiding the disabled have been presented
HighlightsA humanoid robot, as an aid in daily activities to persons with disability, as well as a bionic hand that operates using a special glove, were presented on 30 December 2024 at The International Biomedical Technology Transfer Collaborative Innovation Center of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka (UNIBL).
Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, said that the Innovation Centre should become a regional and demonstration centre for advanced medical technologies that are applied in health care.
He said that there is a plan for exchange of professors, associates, administrative staff, as well as resident doctors, who are the teaching base of the Shanghai University and Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka.
The Minister for Scientific-Technological Development and Higher Education of the Republic of Srpska, docent Željko Budimir, PhD, told the journalists that The International Biomedical Technology Transfer Collaborative Innovation Center is already showing the first results.
He stressed that the support to such researching centres in cooperation with countries that possess high technology is one of the priorities of the Government.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Ranko Škrbić, PhD, said that all the presented items will be tested at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation „Dr Miroslav Zotović“.
He added that, besides the robot, a bionic hand was also presented, which functions through a special glow.
„The glove commands the robot to bring a specified item. Another robot there was the one with biosensors that applied the most advanced technology. The biosensors are built-in into the bionic hand, enabling a patient to feel the temperature and other sensations“, clarified Škrbić.
He also announced the development of special gels that will enable better ultrasonic visualization during an examination, which will improve the resolution of such imaging.
The Director of The International Biomedical Technology Transfer Collaborative Innovation Center at the Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Liang Zhou, said that his team of eight experts is currently visiting Banja Luka and focusing on three fields of work.
„The first field is robots used in medicine, then new materials being applied in biomedicine, as well as applications for data collection in health care system“, explained Zhou.
Director of Confucious Institute at the University of Banja Luka, docent Ljiljana Stević, PhD, and a vice-dean for scientific-research activity and international cooperation at the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Maja Travar, PhD.
Just to remind you, The International Biomedical Technology Transfer Collaborative Innovation Center was opened on 23 August at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka. The Center was opened by the Rector of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, Vice President of Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences Prof. Lei Tang, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka Prof. Ranko Škrbić, PhD, and Director of the Biomedical Technology Development Innovation Center of Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Lian Zhou.
This is the Centre that was jointly opened by the University of Banja Luka and Shanghai University for Medicine and Health Sciences based on the Cooperation Agreement signed on 11 January this year by the Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, and the Rector of Shanghai University for Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof. Wu Tao, PhD.
