University of Banja LukaGeneralOn 9 November 2018, on the premises of the Rectorate of the University of Banja Luka, a small-scale conference gathering 33 members of staff awarded for their academic achievements in the past academic year, whose papers had been published in renowned international journals, and 9 members of staff who participated in international research projects, was held, with the overall award pool amounting to BAM 50,000.
The conference was organised with a view to presenting outstanding academic results to vice-deans for scientific research and, in particular, to junior members of staff taking first steps along their professional paths.
Prof. Goran Latinovic, PhD, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and Development, said that this year’s awarding of money prizes to members of staff who had achieved exceptional scientific results reflected in their papers having been published in high impact factor journals had been the first such activity at the University so far.
‘The management of the University has recognized their efforts and the fact that they have represented this institution in the best way possible, and we are going to continue with this practice in the future, with hope of increasing the award pool’, added Prof. Latinovic
Mr Nemanja Rakic, MA, senior teaching assistant at the Faculty of Sciences, said that he had been awarded for publishing a paper in the Astronomy and Astrophysics journal, the most influential journal in the field of astronomy, with impact factor of 5.565.
‘This factor is evidence of how valuable the paper is, which is the result of several years of research in the field. Furthermore, this is the first paper from the Republic of Srpska, and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the whole, to be published in an astronomy and astrophysics journal’, concluded Mr Rakic.
The participants were also addressed by Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, Rector of the University, and the conference was held as part of the activities organised on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the University.
