Prize by UNESCO for a researcher at the Study Programme of Chemistry
University of Banja LukaGeneralDr Maja Stanisavljevic, employed at the Study Programme of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, as an expert within a project financed by the EIT Raw Materials Fund, was awarded the prestigious PhosAgro/ UNESCO/ IUPAC Partnership in Green Chemistry for Life prize at the ceremony held at the World Economic Forum in St Petersburg (Russia).
The amount of $30, 000 is going to be used for the post-doctoral research of Dr Stanisavljevic, covering the costs of equipment, chemicals and presentation of results at international conferences across Europe in the course of the 2017/2018 academic year. In addition, the prize is going to cover the two-month study visit to the University of Eastern Finland and research in its Laboratory for Water Chemistry.
During her undergraduate and graduate studies, Dr Stanisavljevic was a beneficiary of the Milan Jelic Fund (the Republic of Srpska) and the South Moravian Centre for International Mobility (Czech Republic) respectively, the latter institution awarding her with a PhD degree in the field of nanotechnology.
The ceremony attracted a lot of media attention from the region and abroad, such as the Public Broadcast Service of Serbia, the TANJUG News Agency, the PhosAgro Company, which donated the prize money and the Russian branch office of UNESCO, highlighting the fact that the awarded project was one of only seven to be selected among 180 projects.
