International Forest Day celebrated by a series of events
University of Banja LukaGeneralOn March 21, on the occasion of the International Forest Day, the Faculty of Forestry Students’ Association of the University of Banja Luka organized a series of events in order to raise awareness of the necessity of preserving forests.
With the involvement of around 50 students of the Faculty, aided by Prof. Milan Mataruga, Rector of the University of Banja Luka, and Mr Igor Radojicic, Mayor of Banja Luka, 50 trees, were planted along the streets and boulevards of the city, marking the beginning of renewal of tree lines in the city.
Complementing this campaign, the activities continued on the main city market, where seedlings of forest trees, along with promotion material, were distributed.
The third activity organized on this occasion was the Info Day at the Faculty of Forestry, where final grade students of secondary schools had an opportunity to find out more about the campaign and the Faculty as well.
The campaign, was sponsored by the local Tamaris company and ‘Sume Srpske’, the public company in charge of exploitation and preservation of forests.
