The Forestry Entomology course aims to familiarize students with the basic characteristics of harmful and useful species of forest trees, structure, reproduction, development, and biology of harmful insect species in forestry, the method of combating these organisms and protecting forests in order to increase the production of quality wood and preservation of forest ecosystems. | ||||
Learning outcomes | ||||
Students acquire complete competence to recognize harmful insect species for forestry and to recommend appropriate measures to combat them. In addition, students learn about useful species of insects in forestry with the aim of their protection and potential use in the fight against harmful forest insects. | ||||
Content | ||||
Theoretical teaching. Introduction; the importance of insects for forestry; realms of the living world; insect breeding; insect development; neurosecretion; generation, biological formula and diapause; the role of insects in nature; harmful forest insects; insect gradations; combat measures; predatory insects; parasitoids; pathogenic microorganisms. During the escapes, students will learn in detail about the anatomy and morphology of insects. Practical teaching. Harmful insects in forestry causing various damages from some of the most important orders: Orthoptera, Heteroptera, Homoptera, Thysanoptera, Neuroptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera. Students will learn in detail about the anatomy and morphology of insects. Getting to know the morphological characteristics of insects and the possibility of determining the cause of damage.
