Learning objectives | ||||
Acquiring basic knowledge about demographic processes and problems through the explanation of dynamic components: birth rate, mortality and migration of the population, and their spatial-temporal interdependence that conditions changes and differences in the number, distribution and vital structures of the population. | ||||
Learning outcomes | ||||
Students should acquire knowledge and skills for collecting relevant data on the population, analyzing them in detail with the correct selection of demographic methods and techniques, as well as using them for the purpose of analyzing current demographic processes and problems. | ||||
Content | ||||
Subject, division and methods of demography. Population - concept, significance, research. Theories about population. Collection and processing of population data (census, vital statistics, surveys, other sources). Demographic indicators (rates, proportions, fidelity, indexes). The concept of population growth.Population distribution and population density. General population movement - factors and indicators. Components of natural population movement (fertility, mortality, nuptials and divorce). Determinants of spatial mobility of the population: population migrations and circular movement (circulation) of the population.Gender and age structure of the population. Educational and socio-economic structure of the population. Ethnic, religious, cultural-linguistic and racial structure of the population. Demographic development of the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. Components of natural movement, spatial mobility and population structures of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. Teaching Methods | ||||
Professional knowledge and skills will be provided through lectures, exercises and consultations. Case studies and presentation of seminar papers are done during the exercises. The selection, collection and analysis of demographic data and indicators will be carried out using appropriate demographic, statistical, graphic and cartographic methods. | ||||

Evaluation and grading | ||||
The knowledge test is done in writing (colloquy) during the semester. The final exam is taken orally. Submitted and defended seminar work on exercises is a condition for taking the oral exam. |
