Learning objectives | ||||
Within this course students will acquire knowledge about ways of separating natural polymers from different raw materials, their modification and processing, their characteristics and application. Students will be introduced to the benefits of natural polymers in comparison to synthetic.
Learning outcomes | ||||
Student knows the natural polymers, their properties and their application as materials. Familiar with their difference in relation to synthetic polymers, able to determine, recognize and compare the properties of natural polymers in regards to synthetic. He knows the specificities of their application and ways of producing products based on natural polymers.
Content | ||||
Chemistry of macromolecules of organic natural origin, basic concepts and divisions. Polymer supermolecular structure. Comparison of natural and synthetic polymers. Cellulose and its products (paper, cellulose derivatives). Starch (composition, production, application of starch for non-food purposes). Caoutchouc (natural, synthetic, rubber production). Materials from other natural polymers (leather processing, lignin, protein fibers, natural resins).
Teaching Methods | ||||
Lectures. Laboratory exercises-student works independently with prior examination of exercises, and after the completed experiment, the report is written. Visiting factories and plants as a field training.
Evaluation and grading
Written and oral exam, oral presentation of a seminar work
