Resistance of materials 2 | passed exam
Learning objectives | ||||
Students’ ability to understand soil phase, as well as to learn soil testing methods (field and laboratory), all in order to define soil parameters, necessary for dimensioning
Learning outcomes | ||||
The student is able to recognize, understand and solve the problems of all phases in the soil with their impact on the load capacity and deformability of the soil. He is also ready to determine the soil parameters necessary for dimensioning support structure, as well as bearing construction and defining the soil load in different environmental conditions.
Content | ||||
Investigations. The role of geotechnical exploration works and observations in geotechnical design. Soil testing in the field and in the laboratory. Probing geotechnical profiles. Soil phases. Water in the soil. Permeability and capillarity. Water flow in the soil. Principle of effective stresses, total stresses, pores pressures. Stresses and deformations. Mechanical soil behavior: Mohr circles, tace o stress, deformability and strength. Critical conditions. Shear soil strength. Vertical stresses in the soil. The theory of consolidation. The application of soil mechanics in geotechnics. Soil settlement. Slope stability. Limit states of plastic balance and earth pressures

colloquium 1, colloquium 2, final exam
Specific remarks | ||||
The student is obliged to attend classes. Knowledge tests during the semester (colloquiums) are not repeated. For a student who did not attend semester examinations or did not achieve a passing score (at least 51% of points envisaged for checking knowledge), a written exam will be organized. |
