26th anniversary of the Faculty of Forestry

On 14 December 2018, an observance marking the 26^th anniversary of the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Banja Luka was held.

During the event, 7 master’s degree and 42 bachelor degree holders in the field of forestry were promoted.

‘Establishing close ties between science and professional environment is our permanent commitment’, said Prof. Vojislav Dukic, PhD, Dean of the Faculty, adding that the members of staff followed global trends in the field and dealt with the most topical issues.

Prof. Dukic highlighted the fact that the research and educational processes taking place at this institution guaranteed the preservation of forests in the Republic of Srpska, a greater yield, as well as modernisation of wood processing industries.

In addition, Prof. Dukic said that the significance of this institution was best expressed through the data on resources and potentials of forestry and industries related to it, revealing that 16, 000 employees worked in this sector, with last year’s export of wood assortment and furniture amounting to BAM 600 million.

In the end, Prof. Dukic  stressed out the issue of climate change as one of topical ones, stating that the Faculty had contributed to dealing with it through various research conducted and papers published, being at disposal for all those coping with this global concern.

On behalf of the University of Banja Luka, the present were addressed by Prof. Strain Posavljak, PhD, Vice-Rector for Education and Students’ Affairs, who congratulated the management and staff of the Faculty on the results achieved in the previous period.

The event was also attended by deans of the University of Banja Luka faculties, managers of public companies, assistant ministers of the Government of the Republic of Srpska and other prominent figures.

The Faculty of Forestry was established in 1992, with the first generation of students starting their pursuit of academic degree in 1993 at General course route. As of the academic year of 2007/2008, the Faculty saw a new design of studies following the principles of the Bologna Declaration, introducing the three-cycle studies according to the 3+2+3 model. Since 2013, the 4+1+3 model has been in use. With regard to the second cycle, the Study Programme of Forestry and Study Programme of Forest Resources Management have been organising it since 2011 and 2012 respectively.   Today, the Faculty has well-equipped classrooms and laboratories that allow for a quality educational process.
