University of Banja LukaGeneralThe representatives of the University College of Narvik, from the University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway, and the PPM AS company, whose headquarters are in Trondheim, stayed in Banja Luka from 9th to 13th June 2014. They are partners of the University of Banja Luka on the project from the field of robotics, whose short name is BANOROB (Bosnian-Norwegian research based innovation for development of new, environmental friendly, competitive robot technology for selected target groups), financed by the Kingdom of Norway Government.
The representatives from the University College of Narvik were Prof. Bjørn Solvang, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Gabor Sziebig, PhD, associate on the project. The University of Science and Technology of Trondheim was represented by Prof. Knut Sørby, and the PPM AS company by its director, Mr. Trygve Thomessen.
During their visit to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Banja Luka, the results of establishing VALIP laboratory (virtual laboratory for intelligent systems with remote control) were presented.
Also, the concept of integrated solutions was discussed, that is, connecting laboratories in all four locations into one system that can be operated from each of those locations. For this purpose, the list of necessary equipment that should be obtained was agreed upon. At this presentation of the results achieved, the following professors and teaching assistants of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Banja Luka were present: Prof. Simo Jokanovic, Prof. Vid Jovisevic, Prof. Mihajlo Stojicic, Stevo Borojevic, MA, Branislav Sredanovic, MA, and Slavisa Todorovic.
The BANOROB project also requires that the students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering should spend four months at the partner universities in Norway, where they are supposed to solve concrete project tasks and suggest the application of solutions they reached in practice in business environment in Banja Luka and the Republic of Srpska. This time, students Mirko Petkovic and Dusko Ruzicic presented their project tasks and solutions they reached during their stay at the universities in Norway. Students who stayed in Norway last year and those who applied to go to Norway this year were also present during the presentation.
On the second and third day of their stay, the delegation from Norway discussed with their hosts the possibilities of modernizing the curriculum of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Banja Luka by modernizing the contents of the existing subjects and establishing common subjects at all three partner universities on the BANOROB project.
During their stay, the delegation from Norway paid special attention to project activities related to cooperation with the industry. For this puropse, meetings were held with the representatives of the ICBL (Innovation Centre Banja Luka), the NORWENSS company and the SPEKTRA DMG company, whose plants were visited by the guests who thus convinced themselves of the operating conditions for small and medium enterprises in the production field in this region.
